Sunday 12th April

Bill

Sunday morning lay in, up about ten to eight and washed, shaved and had breakfast, egg and bacon and cornflakes. After breakfast I went and did some of my work, made a cross for one of the lads, the others are on fatigue. Read paper, cleaned buttons and rifle. Broke pullthrough, spliced it together again, mended catapult. Lovely bright morning. Read paper and cleaned up rifle and buttons. Sawed some pieces in two, went back to hut, had a nap and then to dinner. We had mutton, mint sauce, potatoes, beans and fruit salad, custard. Went back to hut, had a sleep till 2 and got dressed, cycled over to Rodwell. Met Doris and we walked back together. After then we walked round the fields. It was lovely out. We got Lyn up and then had tea, after we strolled round the fields with Lyn. Saw a brown gull setting a ***. Put Lyn to bed and read her Nursery Rhymes, then sat in chair and read Corn in Egypt. Very nice book.

Doris

Rodwell. Up 8.40, Lyn too, but she entirely dressed herself! Washed up, did potatoes, then did a bit of washing, wrote to Mum, then did some ironing. Raced through and finished by 2.30, then went to the corner to meet Bill. He was quite all right. We walked round the fields till 4 then got Lyn up, got tea and we had ours, then plus Lyn went round the farm again. Put Lyn to bed and story, then Bill read Corn in Egypt and I tried to make Teddy a pair of trousers, but not too successful. Up to the top with Bill, I wish there were no more partings. 10.30 and bed and very tired. G. Night.
